Okay, so since I’ve been here, I’ve noticed that in LA (Westside), if it’s not Longchamps, it’s Louis Vuitton. Longchamps has a great quality/price for what it is (only leather on the handle though) the rest is just cloth. Nevertheless, wouldn’t you rather get something no one has? I mean I get it, it’s French and maybe a couple of years ago it wasn’t famous at all. Every woman has one here! And the colors they’re chosing are not even original. It’s a cloth bag so get a colorful one. We’re lucky enough to be in a sunny city, so go wild! If you’re wearing classic colors to work (blue, black, grey) get a yellow one. It’s also a great present for a friend because it’s quite cheap (50 euros) As for the LV Bags ,I cannot stand the pattern. It’s the same thing, it has to be either customize (add your initials or a colorful stripe) If you want to spend the money, get an original piece. bumped into that red
one earlier in Brentwood. I would love to understand why you feel like buying these Longchamps bags? Is it because it’s French? Because you see other women wearing it? It’s a great brand so I’m obviously just intrigued to know.

Magazine Subscriptions
Okay so it’s a friend’s birthday soon and I was out of ideas. Hard to find a way to send a present abroad and also very expensive. I thought about what I would like to get, what is interesting and easy. A gift comes from the heart but when you’re buying it from someone who is not your closest friend, you really:
1) do not want to spend so much money,
2) do not feel like buying something intimate (maybe you don’t know the person’s taste that much) and
3) still want to feel happy about what you are getting and hope this friend will appreciate it.
So I came with this idea. Getting them a Magazine subscription! Check out the magazine before in a bookstore or news stand. Check if it is not just full of ads and that it has interesting articles on the subject you’re picking.
Check on your friend’s Facebook page what her/his interests are. And you’ll make someone happy believe me.
Not so expensive and not too much efforts either.
Lunch at Blue Plate
Blue Plate has no outside seating (except two little tables on the front). That’s okay though because the service is good. The food is not original but it’s Good and that’s what we’re looking for. An American brunch/breakfast/lunch: perfect spot.
What I love about the US is that: half salad/soup and sandwich combo you can get! Yes, if you do not feel like eating an entire sandwich or wrap you can get a soup. I got the Matzo Ball Soup (like my Grandma’s) and the tuna melt. Delicious!
You must try the turkey, coleslaw, thousand island wrap too! And please remember to get one of their fresh juices (cucumber/apple) Bon Appétit.

Day Two
Are people in LA only in real estate or artists? It’s incredible each time I’m having lunch or drinking a coffee and listening to the conversation people are having, turns out the only subjects they talk about are “brokers, lots, design” or “script, agent”. Just to let you know, I usually do not listen to other people. I feel it’s intimate and impolite to listen. We are not invited to do so and maybe they are sharing very deep and secret thoughts. However, I have to say that people here talk loudly and do not really care if anyone listens. In general they even want others to listen kind of self marketing. Maybe they think what they are saying is worth being listened to. I was having lunch at tavern in Brentwood. Great spot! People were having lunch and spontaneously telling their table-neighbours that the chocolate cake looked amazing and huge. Who would do that in Paris? It would be much different and seen as an intrusion in one’s private life and intimate kingdom. Why is it that here I feel great sitting alone in a fancy/trendy spot? I do not care no one is judging me for being alone, looking at me and feeling pity. Yes I am eating alone and so what? I am inspired and I am writing this article. It is almost impossible for a young woman to sit down at a Costes restaurant (trendy place) in Paris and not being viewed as a weird person or maybe even as a gold digger. I remember this story a friend once told me about this girl who decided to get breakfast in a really trendy spot and who felt so horrible because men came up to her. Yes she was wearing a short dress but whatever! Who would care here in LA? All women have the freedom to wear whatever they feel like and yet I’m guessing they get judged from time to time but they do not care so much. I love how people share their opinion here on food, ask for advice, it even gets really specific sometimes. You do not feel like you’re bothering your waiter, he is there to help you , serve you and answer your deepest questions. For instance: “which burger would you recommend?”, “which desert is your favorite”? It’s not something you’d do in France. People are not really there to tell you what to do.Isn’t it such a big responsibility though to choose for you? Isn’t the waiter entering your private life in a way when he is chosing for you and telling you which one he thinks is the best. You know what’s great about it: he doesn’t even care if you follow his advice, he just wants you to be happy, enjoy your meal. At the end of the day, everyone is happy. He did his job, he served you and waited (answered your questions for so long) he waits, that’s what he does … Isn’t waiting such a waste of time and energy? What is he really waiting for? For you to sign the bill? Get his tip?
Waiting has always been something one should explore. I know a lot of different artists already explored the concept, writing plays about it, making movies, writing amazing poems … What is so captivating with this idea of waiting? Waiting for who, for what and where? Where do you usually wait? Okay, we wait in line. That’s the first idea that comes to mind. The physical wait we experience daily (supermarket, movie theater, transportation …) Then, I’d say waiting at a red light in your car (sometimes these lights can be pretty long)
What if these moments were golden? What if we finally stopped what we were doing and focus on more important stuff? I mean it’s not like you’re going to do anything productive in these “waiting moments” you may as well start thinking about what comes to mind. Sometimes even listening to a song on the radio while you are at a red light can bring back so many different thoughts and feelings. It’s amazing how the human’s mind has this capacity to change so quickly. One minute, one can be totally depressed, low, thinking about his bad day at work … and during maybe one of these “waiting period”, one can realise how lucky he is for this or that reason, reminiscing about the past (good times), looking at the pink sky and asking oneself why not feel good again? Why not fight this negative feeling and just enjoy this moment?
Some would say we are all waiting … Waiting for the end I guess. It’s a rather depressing way to see life. Therefore, make your wait incredible! Do not wait for things to happen, make them happen. Read, listen to music, talk to people, make new encounters and you’ll find that waiting gets a lot more interesting. Do not wait for the sake of waiting but always remember you should cherish these moments, because they become the deepest and most truthful ones.

Hama Sushi Dinner
Great spot in Venice, sitting at the sushi bar . Let the chef take care of you and you’ll be surprise. If you enjoy white fish and lemon just get the Chiso Lemon Roll it’s delicious.
We do not have anything similar in France. Japanese places are usually held by Chinese people. They serve exactly the same which is sashimi combo (salmon, tuna and white fish) usually not so fresh and not tasty at all.
We also have these chains of sushi take outs which are getting there (step by step) it’s more of a revisité (revisit) japanese food. A lot of different rolls with ingredients which are not at all japanese (cream cheese roll, lox, even nutella rolls with eggs) I wouldn’t say this is fine japanese cuisine but when you’re starving in Paris and need a light lunch it’s enough.
SushiShop is doing an awesome job lately, hiring French chefs (Thierry Marx) to “revisit” their menus, adding foie gras dishes/sushi, caviar and French style tartares. You guys can already check it out in NYC, they just opened a location there.
I’ll never trade any French japanese place for an average LA one though!
This is the best (in my opinion):
Shiso Lemon Roll Yellowtail, green onions and tempura shiso leaf inside, with thin slices of Halibut, and lemon on top with yuzu juice, chili oil, and salt 19.00
Day One
I’m a Parisian woman and moving here was a complete transformation in my normal routine. I used to live in NYC which had a touch of Paris’ lifestyle: the atmosphere, restaurants, bars, clubs, art, shopping, walking in the streets … LA is just another world, another scene, one has to figure out how he is going to experience the transformation before becoming a happy resident. Here, you cannot do anything, meet anyone, without using your car. The car says a lot about the driver. You must choose your car intelligently, strategically. If you ask someone to go for a walk, a “promenade”, the answer is NO.
You do not walk here, you drive and you love it.
The funny thing though, is that I used to drive everywhere in Paris.
So why am I complaining? I just feel that to discover a city, you need to walk. Not using a guide, but walk your own way, your own path … Have your own vision, encounters, try new stuff and have your own opinion. That’s the true discovery. And, I must admit it’s really wonderful to get to know a city.
I feel that getting to know a city is like falling in love. You just exchange thoughts, dialogue, experience great moments, bad fights, laugh, cry, make love …
You get lost, you find your way and you feel so happy when you finally know where you’re going. You create your own habits, you tell your friends about them. You feel you own the city like if you’d been living there forever.
I know that for a fact since I moved to NYC and had this feeling for a while.
First comes the discovery, shy rather slow period. The parallel with the relationship is obvious. You do not jump directly in someone’s life, you take your time, get to know the individual, show who you are without showing too much. That’s exactly how it works with the new city.
What if the city is spread out? Los Angeles is huge. How can you deal with that? How can you fall in love?
It’s not going to be easy, it’s going to take time and efforts. But what is more desirable than discovering and getting to know someone who has so much to offer: different aspects of his personality, who is always surprising you and whom you always have something to learn from.
Los Angeles is not just Los Angeles. Before I experienced it and decided to start the discovery process, I hated LA. I thought LA was Sunset Bd, Hollywood, the movie stars, Disney and Universal Studios. I didn’t know anything and didn’t even want to know. I felt it could never be compared to San Francisco or New York City. I felt LA was empty. I was so wrong…
But it takes time … And you have to be patient if you want to start your journey.
LA is about the people of LA, it’s about the diversity of things and the beauty of its melting pot.
Perfect Skin

Musthaves and things to avoid
1st TOPIC Perfect skin
Okay LA is a sunny city, but isn’t it also the city of Angels? And I’m guessing angels are usually white. Rule number one for a Parisian in LA or a wannabe ParisianLA, “do not stay in the sun too much”. The sun here is really strong and sometimes (which I never could understand) it gives allergies you’ve never had before (little bumps on your legs or red dots on the face)
Trust me, if you want to look natural and get this French glow, put sunscreen on your face at least and use these following amazingly wonderful products I’ve been using for ever (and will never stop) …
– The BB creme: it took me so long to start using it (I can get really stubborn sometimes when people keep talking about something trendy I just do not want to buy it) This creme is a great product for healthy and smooth skins with nothing to hide really. It serves as a concealer, a foundation as well as a great daily cream. It’s way more than 3 in 1 but that’s the only way I can describe it. Buy the big tube and you do not have to put a big amount and paint your face with it. You can even mix it with your other daily cream. For people with bad skins and pimples, this cream is also very useful but you’ll still have to use your creams to fight your problems and foundation to hide them. One more time though, it’s not because you have bad skin that you have to stay in the sun thinking the vitamin D is going to make everything better. I know it helps at first but then it gets worst.
– The one and only NIVEA blue cream (do not know the exact name): This is said to be the product that will allow our enemies to stay away (wrinkles). I’ve been told to use this cream at a very early age (10 maybe). You must apply it on your neck and hands (which are usually the body parts that get the most wrinkled) on your face and entire body if you can. The only little drawback with this product is that it takes a while to get into your skin. It is the best moisturizer but it feels like you put greek yogurt on your body. So maybe try some body parts (knees, feet, elbows, neck) and the entire body obviously only when you’re sleeping alone. It can be rather a turn off to feel like butter in bed. Good night creamy.
– The famous Eight-Hour-Cream by Estée Lauder: very very sticky so this is not a normal cream. You have to apply it on your lips at least once a day and preferably at night (big amount) It has to be in your purse all through winter time (even in LA) If you’re going sailing or somewhere really windy, apply the product. It’s also very useful for little cuts on your hands. The only little probleme with this amazing cosmetic product is the smell (some men really do not like it). Kissing gets difficult because it stays on for a while after applying it. A small little amount mixed with Carmex can be a solution in that case. It is also a great way to apply lipstick easier. You can use a brush and mix the lipstick with the cream. The result is a very nice glow on your lips.
– Body cream is good but BODY OIL rocks: The only issue with the oil I must admit is the stickiness. How can you go to sleep, wear your silk nightgown without staining it? I have the solution I’ve been using for years. I know it’s expensive but it’s worth the money. The Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse is definitely the best, number one oil. It doesn’t really have a smell. I’d recommend buying the unsparkling one. I apply it in my hair (extremities) before going to sleep and on my body especially on my chest, neck and legs. You can also put a little drop on your eyebrows at night so they grow quicker and get healthier.
For the expenses, if you travel a lot or if you know someone who does, I recommend buying the Eight-Hour cream (duty-free) you usually make a great deal.
Perfect nails
I must say that Parisian girls (talking about the true, natural, no makeup Parisian women) have been a little out of the Nail scene. They prefer nothing or maybe transparent nail polish to make the nails look strong. I mean this is the reality. I have a lot of girlfriends in Paris who didn’t even know how to put nail polish, which brand to buy and where to go. I get it! I was the same not so long ago. It’s more of a rebellion again against society and the “other girls”. That’s usually what a Parisian would say. This other girl who looks so superficial (fake hair, fake face, fake boobs, fake nails) OMG! Obviously the Parisian do not say OMG. Wait a minute, they’re starting to say it more and more lately (which if you want my opinion is so dumb) A Parisian would say “quelle horreur”, “cata” (short for catastrophe), “la pauvre” (pity for a superficial who is too dumb to understand that she is trying too much) We, Parisian, all love that! It’s not really gossip, it’s not really mean, it’s nothing really … just reality. You’d say Notre-Dame is amazingly beautiful but Pompidou would be “cata”! Same for people walking in the street. That’s the way it works. We have never been afraid to tell a woman that she has great style and ask her where she got her boots. We prefer not saying anything to the “poor” girl who just has it all wrong. Her friends have to tell her! That’s the Parisian way of thinking, the way we deal with bad style.
Back to the nail situation, I started really doing them when I moved to NYC. At that time, Paris was really behind. We didn’t have so many “chinese” cheap nail salon. I think it may have exploded when SATC became so popular there. Now, having your nails done in Paris is easy. You still have to stay simple to stay Parisian .For any occasion dealing with the fashion or art industries, you can get crazy (different colors on each nail, weird colors, fluorescent …) Nevertheless, for the everyday wear, the nails must be natural even with nail polish on! Never try fake nails! It’s so hideous and ruins your nails. Never have long nails with color (it’s a sign of vulgarity) Stay simple: if it’s summer time (LA style) you can wear reddish, orange/red.
